Proposed Orang Utan Sanctuary
The orang utan (man of the forest) is a highly endangered species. It's original habitat included most of Indonesia, the island of Borneo and the Malaysian peninsula. Nowadays, the orang utan cannot be found on the peninsula except in zoos.
There are a few wild orang utan on the island of Borneo but most are located in the few privately run wildlife sanctuaries in Kalimantan, Indonesia, and Sabah and Sarawak, Malaysia.

The most famous and most popular of these is found at Sepilok, outside Sandakan, north of Kota Kinabalu in Sabah known as the "Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre".

Another world famous sanctuary is based in Dorset, England.
"Monkey World" has been seen on Animal Planet all round the world and is operated by Dr. Alison Cronin MBE.

In 2009, we recommended to the state government that Port Dickson would be an ideal location to create the only primate rescue centre (concentrating on the orang utan) on the peninsula. Sadly, no interest was shown in our proposal which had a starting budget of RM2.5 million and a projected annual income from tourism of RM5 million.

In many places (including Malaysia), the orang utan is trained by the cruelest of methods, to entertain guests with performances that take years to learn, being beaten, deprived of food, and kept in small cages until they learn.
It is these sanctuaries and others, that attempt to rescue primates from these appalling conditions and give them the relative freedom that they deserve.
While our public servants and politicians live in luxury, they have little concern for these creatures.

We have not given up in our attempts to create our sanctuary in Port Dickson. As a result of an alliance with a company in KL, we are hopeful that our dreams may come to fruition sometime in 2011.

In the meantime, think of this -
